1) International competitions Musica Antiqua for vocal soloists 2008.

REPERTOIRE

PRELIMINARY ROUNDS(02-05 VIII)
- Italian solo madrigal (1600-1650) with diminutions (min.4' - max.7’)
- Four English ‘lute songs’ amongst which two by J. Dowland and two by contemporaries
- French, German or Italian solo cantata of own choice (1680-1760) (min.6' - max.15’)

SEMI-FINAL (07 VIII)
- Two airs (with recitatives) from a French Baroque opera (not necessarily from the same opera)
- Two virtuoso airs from a Italian baroque opera (1680-1760) (not necessarily from the same opera)
- Four compositions (air, song, florid recitative) by H. Purcell from “Harmonia Sacra” or “Orpheus Britannicus”
- A major aria from an oratorio or cantata by J.G. Graun, G.P. Telemann, G.H. Haendel or sons of J.S. Bach
- “Venite a laudare” (Lauda I) by Gavin Bryars (°1943), if necessary transposed by voice type

FINAL (09 VIII)
A. with pianoforte / harpsichord accompaniment (orchestral reductions allowed)
- Mauricio Kagel (°1931): one movement at choice from “Rrrrr - Vier Stücke für Solo-Stimme”
- Four 'Lieder' at choice, amongst which two by C.P.E. Bach and/or J.F. Reichardt, and two by W.A. Mozart and/or L. van Beethoven

B. with orchestral accompaniment (La Risonanza , dir. Fabio Bonizzoni)

RULES

Art. 1 Organisation of the competition
> Competitors can make a reservation for a single or double room in a student’s centre. (B&B, € 20 per person per night). This should be clearly mentioned on the application form.
> Competitors can apply for an official accompanist free of charge; this should be clearly mentioned on the competition form.
> The accompaniment will not be taken in consideration when judging the competitor’s performance.
> Dates: preliminary rounds from August 2nd on ; finals on August 9th.
> Rehearsals can be scheduled in the conservatoire of Bruges from Thursday July 31st, 2PM on.
> The order of the works to be performed can be decided by the participants themselves.
> The jury can ask for one or more fragments of certain works to be performed.
> Over the totality of the programme, all works must be different.
> There is no appeal against the decisions of the jury.
> All performances are open to the public.
> Participants will compete in the order as decided by lot
> All participants should be fully acquainted with the regulations and schedules.
> All further information hereto will be sent before May 31st 2008.
> Participants must include with the subscription form a detailed program (title - composer - source(s) - approximate timing) (see also art.1.2)

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

Art. 2 The competition is open to
> Musicians of all nationalities, younger than 33 at the start of the competition.
> Musicians who before April 15th 2008 have:
- completed and returned the application form
a) online (preferably)
b) or by post to Festival van Vlaanderen - Brugge, ’t Zand 34, BE-8000 Brugge, Belgium (downloadable file)
> sent a biography, photo and detailed program to festival.competitions@telenet.be or to the postal address mentioned.
> sent to the organizers three copies of the chosen scores (by post).
> paid the registration fee (€ 55 for instrumental soloists and € 55 for vocal soloists) to the bank account of the Festival van Vlaanderen - Brugge: IBAN: BE 62 470 0811151 61 ; BIC: KREDBEBB (KBC Bank, Steenstraat 38, BE-8000 Brugge)
> paid a deposit (€ 20) for the accommodation in the student’s centre.
- note 1: only for participants who whish to make a reservation in the student’s centre
- note 2: the number of rooms is limited! Don't hesitate too long.
- note 3: the deposit is deductible from the total accommodation expenses, but in case of ‘no show’ it won’t be refunded.
- note 4: the amount of registration fee + deposit can be paid by one single bank transfer.
